If I could take a trip anywhere in the world, I’d choose … Oz. As in the place over the rainbow, not the prison. So I am very excited about Disney’s upcoming “Oz: The Great And Powerful,” a prequel to everyone’s favorite tale about a girl following the yellow brick road. The cast so far is stellar. The very busy James Franco will play the guy behind the curtain. Mila Kunis will play Theodora, who goes on to become the Wicked Witch of the West. Rachel Weisz will be Evanora, the already evil Wicked Witch of the East.
And now, the movie finally has its Glinda, after much debate. Director Sam Raimi was gunning for the amazing Hilary Swank. Meanwhile, Disney was pushing full-throttle for Michelle Williams. In the end, they won and Michelle has landed the highly coveted part. As much as I love Hilary, I think Michelle is the perfect choice. Because, well, with her bleached blonde hair and angelic face she just looks like a good witch. And she’s not really a Disney choice, you know—her most recent movies were the racy “Blue Valentine” and the slow-moving Oregon Trail movie, “Meek’s Cutoff.” Plus, she and Mila are very close in age—meaning they’ll play off each other perfectly.
Oh, how I cannot wait for this movie. Maybe if I click my heels three times it’ll be here sooner?
